One of the most magical places for me close to Sydney is the Australia Walkabout Park at Calga. Unfortunately the future of this beautiful wildlife sanctuary is being threatened due to sand mining activity on their border. This Saturday there will be a free family event from 3pm onwards at the Walkabout Park in support of stopping the Rocla sand mine at Calga.
Here is the program:
3:00 pm – FREE ranger-led animal interactions, meet the really cool critters that we are trying to save
4:00 pm – FREE bush tucker walkabout
5:30 pm – Save our Land, our Water, our Wildlife – letter writing workshop
6:30 pm – FREE SAUSAGE SIZZLE – live acoustic entertainment and guest speakers
8:00 pm – FREE kids’ outdoor cinema – TBA
9:30 pm – FREE film on the outdoor big screen – TBA
11:00 pm – Music round the campfire (providing there’s no total fire ban)
Address: Darkinjung Rd off Peats Ridge Road, Calga NSW 2250
I’ve been extremely lucky to spend a fair bit of time at this amazing place. I still remember the first time I visited, I was blown away by how happy the animals were and loved the atmosphere of the whole place. It is the perfect combination of wildlife, nature and aboriginal heritage.
We’ve worked with Tassin Barnard (the owner) and her team to help them with their marketing and launch their overnight wild sleep out adventure. Tassin is an amazing woman, who left her CEO role in the insurance industry to follow her passion and become a custodian of a wide range of protected animals. She truly loves what she does and has such a drive and passion to play an active role in preserving and increasing populations of rare and endangered Australian animals and plants.
We’ve also spent many family weekends here, enjoying it time after time. We’ve done the wild sleep out adventure, which is an absolute must. My boys have had their 4th and 6th birthday parties at the park and every time we have overseas visitors, we take them for a nice day out to the Walkabout Park, as it is absolutely the best place to see Australian animals in a beautiful free environment.
