One thing I really looked forward to when I started my own business was choosing the team of people that I wanted to work with in Twinlife Marketing. Having smart and skilled people around you, who are not afraid to step out of their comfort zone, voice their opinion and constantly look for better ways to do things, make running a business a whole lot more exciting and interesting.
I feel really lucky to be surrounded by those types of people and I am very excited to announce that Joanne Akkari has been promoted to General Manager and Sasha Reid has been promoted to Head of Marketing Consulting. Both Joanne and Sasha are not only outstanding strategic marketers and people managers, but also beautiful people with a real can do attitude and a big heart.
It has been quite a journey for me…
The start of letting go
Last year, I embarked on the journey of letting go by promoting Joanne to Head of Marketing Consulting. I am not going to lie, although I knew that it was the right thing to do, it was a bit of a challenge for me. I had to sit on my hands for the first few weeks and really had to force myself to not interfere. I know that empowering people is the best way to let people shine, but gosh it was hard in the beginning. However, once I got over the initial hurdle of letting go, the change happened and I couldn’t have been happier. I started to feel lighter and less pressured and I just couldn’t believe that someone else than myself could have so much love for Twinlife Marketing – it felt so good. But even better, Joanne came up with great ideas that I could never have come up with myself and has really had a very positive influence on the Twinlife Marketing team.
More letting go
Mid last year, Sasha, who I had the pleasure working with in my last corporate marketing job, came back to Australia from a stint of working in various strategic marketing roles in London (and travelling the world – in the photo she is enjoying Amsterdam with her daughter Mia) and joined our team. Sasha has since not only delivered solid and reliable marketing support to our clients, but has also worked very closely together with Joanne to improve our strategic marketing processes, based on her overseas experiences. Everything happened without me even having to be involved and I was comfortable with that. It felt great that the taking care of Twinlife Marketing was amplified again.
The next logical step
The next logical step is to use Sasha’s and Joanne’s talents even more for Twinlife Marketing, hence why they have been promoted to their new roles. I couldn’t be happier with this and I know that they together with our great strategic marketing consultants will be flying. I don’t need to sit on my hands anymore this year and have been feeling really comfortable and at ease from the start…I think I am making progress. I have also finally let go of the admin burden, as Liesel Lurie has joined us as our management team assistant. She is so much better and quicker than I am and now I wonder why I didn’t do this any earlier. Anyway, we live and we learn every day and that’s what keeps life interesting.
